Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, has set the record straight by revealing that Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 previously rumored.
Appointed head coach of the Ghanaian national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, following Otto Addo’s dismissal in March, Carlos Queiroz had signed a short-term contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Since the financial details of this agreement were never made public, there had been widespread speculation regarding his compensation.
In an interview with TV3, Kofi Adams sought to set the record straight, stating that the former coach of Iran, Egypt, and Colombia was earning a salary lower than the amounts reported in the media.
“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that has been reported,” said the representative from Buem.
Under the guidance of the 73-year-old Portuguese coach, Ghana reached the knockout stage of the World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
Despite their elimination, Carlos Queiroz’s performance is said to have impressed the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports.
According to several reports, the Portuguese coach is expected to be offered a two-year contract extension to continue his work at the helm of the Black Stars.
Ghana is now turning its attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Black Stars will compete in Group C, alongside Ivory Coast, Somalia, and The Gambia. The qualifying campaign will begin in September.
