GPL: Amankona Leaves Smouha as Medeama Lead Chase for Ghanaian Striker

Former Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona has officially ended his spell with Egyptian Premier League side Smouha SC, paving the way for a return to the transfer market ahead of the new season.

The prolific Ghanaian striker is already attracting strong interest from multiple clubs, with at least three teams monitoring his situation following his departure from the Egyptian outfit.

Ghana Premier League clubs Medeama SC and Bibiani Gold Stars are among the leading contenders for the striker’s signature, as both sides seek to strengthen their attacking options before the start of the campaign.

However, Medeama are understood to be in pole position, with the Tarkwa-based club intensifying efforts to complete a deal. Negotiations are reportedly progressing as the former Berekum Chelsea marksman weighs his next move.

Amankona built a reputation as one of the Ghana Premier League’s most clinical forwards during his time with Berekum Chelsea, earning a move to Egypt. His availability is now expected to spark further competition among interested clubs as they look to secure an experienced and proven goalscorer.
