FIFA is expected to announce its disciplinary decision in early August following an investigation into the post-match clashes involving Argentina after the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Spain.
The world football governing body launched the investigation after tensions flared at the end of the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Spain secured a 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina to claim their second FIFA World Cup title.
Substitute Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal to seal the triumph.
The celebrations were overshadowed by confrontations involving players and members of the coaching staff from both teams after the final whistle.
FIFA subsequently appointed a disciplinary and ethics prosecutor to examine the referee’s report, match footage and other available video evidence to determine whether any disciplinary measures are warranted.
The investigation is focusing on several incidents that were captured by television cameras and circulated widely on social media.
According to reports, Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes, defender Nahuel Molina and assistant coach Roberto Ayala are among those being investigated for their roles in the altercations.
FIFA has also dismissed speculation that Paredes received a red card during the post-match incidents, confirming that no such dismissal was issued.
The findings of the investigation, expected in early August, will determine whether sanctions will be imposed on any players or officials involved.
