2026 Commonwealth Games: Chukwuebuka Enekwechi Wins Gold In Shot Put for Nigeria

Nigeria’s Chukwuebuka Enekwechi has been crowned the new Commonwealth Games men’s shot put champion after producing a championship-winning throw of 21.07 metres at the Games in Glasgow.

Enekwechi secured the gold medal with a superb fifth-round effort, ending Nigeria’s wait for a Commonwealth title in the event with a composed and determined performance against a world-class field.

The Nigerian thrower edged New Zealand’s Tom Walsh, who settled for the silver medal after recording a best throw of 21.03 metres, just four centimetres behind the champion.

England’s Scott Lincoln claimed the bronze medal with a throw of 20.99 metres.

The victory marks a significant milestone in Enekwechi’s career and further strengthens Nigeria’s reputation in international athletics.

His winning throw under pressure demonstrated remarkable consistency and resilience as he rose above his rivals in one of the most competitive field events of the Games.

Enekwechi’s triumph adds another gold medal to Nigeria’s tally and serves as a major boost for the country’s athletics programme, with the shot put star once again proving he belongs among the world’s elite throwers.

The Commonwealth Games gold is expected to inspire a new generation of Nigerian athletes while reinforcing Enekwechi’s status as one of Africa’s leading names in the shot put.
