The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have urged the Super Falcons to secure victory against Egypt in their final Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and book a place in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria faces a must-win encounter after an inconsistent start to the tournament.
The nine-time African champions opened their campaign with a 3-2 loss to Malawi before bouncing back with a narrow 1-0 victory over Zambia to keep their hopes of another continental title alive.
Ahead of Wednesday’s decisive fixture in Rabat, officials of the NSC and the NFF met with the players and coaching staff, reaffirming the Federal Government’s support as the team pursues a record-extending 11th WAFCON crown.
Addressing the squad, the NFF General Secretary assured the players of the full backing of the Federal Government, the National Sports Commission, the football federation and Nigerian fans.
He challenged the team to deliver a strong performance against Egypt, stressing that victory would not only guarantee a place in the knockout rounds but also strengthen Nigeria’s bid to remain among the continent’s elite and continue its journey towards FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification.
The football administrator also pledged that the authorities would continue to provide the financial and logistical support required to help the team succeed throughout the competition.
The decisive Group C clash will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
While the Super Falcons remain in contention for a place in the last eight, Egypt arrives at the fixture without a point after losing its opening two matches.
Despite their struggles, the North Africans will be eager to finish the tournament on a positive note.
Nigeria will be banking on its wealth of experience, defensive discipline and attacking quality to claim all three points, advance to the quarter-finals and keep alive its ambition of retaining the WAFCON title.
