WAFCON 2026: FAZILI FIRES WARNING SHOT AHEAD OF GHANA CLASH

Malawi head coach Lovemore Fazili has struck a confident tone ahead of his side’s highly anticipated WAFCON quarterfinal clash against Ghana, insisting familiarity between both teams will make for a fiercely contested encounter.

Fazili acknowledged the history and understanding shared between the two sides but maintained that only performance on the day would determine the outcome.

“We know Ghana and they know us. The best team will win the quarter final,” he said.

With both nations eyeing a semifinal berth, Fazili’s comments underline the fine margins expected in what promises to be a tightly fought contest.

Malawi head into the fixture buoyed by a string of disciplined performances in the group stage, where their defensive organisation and quick transitions proved effective.

Fazili is expected to rely on a compact shape while exploiting spaces on the counterattack.

The encounter also represents a major opportunity for Malawi to underline their growing status in African women’s football, with a victory over Ghana likely to be seen as a defining moment for the Scorchers.
