Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has questioned the belief among Arsenal supporters that Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. could leave the Spanish giants to join the Premier League club.
Mikel, speaking about the transfer speculation, expressed disbelief that Arsenal fans genuinely expected the Brazil international to make the move to North London.
“I have no idea why Arsenal fans will genuinely believe that Vinicius Jr. was going to leave Real Madrid and go to Arsenal,” Mikel said.
The former Nigeria international suggested that the speculation was unrealistic, given Vinicius’ status at Real Madrid and his importance to the Spanish giants.
“I just think it was only the Arsenal fans that believed that was going to happen. I don’t know what they were smoking,” he added.
Vinicius has established himself as one of Real Madrid’s most influential attacking players since joining the club from Flamengo. His pace, creativity and goalscoring ability have made him a key figure in the Madrid attack.
Mikel’s comments have added a humorous twist to the transfer debate, while highlighting the gap between Arsenal supporters’ hopes and the reality of attempting to prise one of Real Madrid’s biggest stars away from the Santiago Bernabéu.
