Wydad AC Part Ways with Benhachem After Continental Exit

Wydad AC have officially parted ways with head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem following the club’s failure to reach the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The decision comes in the aftermath of a disappointing continental campaign that saw the Moroccan giants fall short of expectations, despite entering the competition as one of the favorites. The exit has prompted swift action from the club’s hierarchy as they look to salvage their season.

Benhachem leaves with Wydad in a relatively strong domestic position, sitting second on the league table with 29 points from 12 matches. Notably, the team still holds three games in hand, leaving the title race very much within reach for the Casablanca-based side.

The coach had taken over reins last season, succeeding Rulani Mokwena during a period of transition. While he managed to steady the team domestically, the inability to deliver on the continental stage ultimately proved decisive.

Wydad are now expected to move quickly in appointing a successor as they aim to maintain their push for league glory while rebuilding confidence after their African setback.
