Botswana surrendered a two-goal lead as Libya staged a dramatic late comeback to secure a 2-2 draw in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash in Tripoli.
The Mighty Zebras made a strong start to the encounter, although the opening 20 minutes passed without a goal. Botswana’s Tebogo Kopelang was booked in the 14th minute as both sides battled for control.
Botswana eventually broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Tumisang Orebonye found the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
Orebonye struck again in the 41st minute, completing his brace and putting Botswana firmly in command at 2-0 heading into the latter stages of the match.
Libya refused to give up and began their fightback in the 86th minute when Maruwan Al-Hbeishi pulled a goal back to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
With five minutes of added time played, Libya were awarded a penalty, and Ezzedine Faraj made no mistake from the spot, sending the ball into the net to complete the comeback.
The final whistle confirmed a 2-2 draw, leaving Botswana to rue a missed opportunity after surrendering a two-goal lead in the closing stages.
