The Democratic Republic of Congo made a winning start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, defeating Equatorial Guinea 2-0 at home on Thursday.

Chancel Mbemba and Yoane Wissa scored for the Leopards as DR Congo secured all three points in their opening qualifier.

Mbemba opened the scoring to give the hosts the advantage before Wissa added a second goal to put the result beyond doubt.

Equatorial Guinea struggled to find a response as DR Congo maintained control and protected their lead through the remainder of the match.

The victory gives DR Congo an important three points at the start of their campaign as they target qualification for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

For Equatorial Guinea, the defeat leaves them with work to do in their remaining qualifying fixtures.
