Algeria came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Burundi in Bujumbura on Matchday 2 of Group I in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Burundi stunned the Fennecs early, but Algeria showed character to fight back and leave with a valuable point.
Burundi took control within the opening 12 minutes. Farès Chaïbi put the ball into his own net in the 5th minute before J. Girumugisha doubled the lead seven minutes later. Algeria responded in the 30th minute when M. Belloumi pulled one back and gave the Fennecs fresh hope before the break.
Algeria continued to dominate possession after halftime, enjoying 71% of the ball, and eventually found the equaliser through A. Boulbina, who converted a free-kick in the 63rd minute. The Fennecs pushed for a winner until the final whistle, but Burundi held firm through stoppage time. Algeria now takes one point from Bujumbura, putting added pressure on Togo ahead of their meeting with Zambia.
