Cameroon begins its AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Comoros on Thursday, September 24, at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua. The Indomitable Lions enter as favorites, but the Coelacanths have enough qualities to make this a difficult opening match.
Comoros have made major progress in recent years and showed their character at the 2021 AFCON. Despite playing with ten men and without a specialist goalkeeper, they pushed Cameroon hard before losing 2–1. Their compact defense, quick transitions, and ability to stay focused could create problems again. Several players also bring experience from European leagues, giving the team greater tactical discipline and confidence.
Cameroon must therefore avoid a slow start and control the spaces behind its defense. If the Lions struggle to break down a compact opponent, Comoros can use their pace to punish mistakes.
