Cameroon opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 3-1 victory over Comoros in Garoua on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The Indomitable Lions produced a strong attacking display at the Stade Roumdé Adjia to claim all three points in their opening Group G fixture.
David Nyengue, Bryan Mbeumo and Danny Namaso were on target for Cameroon, while Warmed Omari scored Comoros’ only goal.
Nyengue gives Cameroon the lead
After a competitive opening period, Cameroon eventually broke the deadlock in the 39th minute.
Defender David Nyengue rose to head Cameroon in front, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage before the interval.
The goal was particularly significant for Nyengue, who was making his debut for the Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon went into half-time with a narrow lead and returned from the break determined to extend their advantage.
Mbeumo doubles Cameroon’s advantage
The hosts quickly found a second goal after the restart.
Bryan Mbeumo struck in the 48th minute to put Cameroon 2-0 ahead.
The Manchester United forward, who captained the side, continued his growing importance to the national team with another decisive attacking contribution.
With a two-goal cushion, Cameroon appeared to be heading towards a comfortable victory.
Omari gives Comoros hope as they responded almost immediately.
The goal came after a set-piece situation and changed the momentum of the contest for a period.
Comoros pushed for an equaliser, but Cameroon remained composed and eventually restored their two-goal advantage.
Cameroon put the result beyond doubt in the 81st minute when Danny Namaso found the net for the third goal.
The victory gives Cameroon an important early boost in Group G of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
