Malawi began their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a 2–1 victory over South Sudan on Friday at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
The Flames opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Adepoju, giving Malawi a 1–0 lead at half-time.
Malawi doubled their advantage after the break when L. Njaliwa found the net in the 64th minute, putting the hosts in a commanding position.
South Sudan fought back and managed to pull one goal back, but Malawi held firm in the closing stages to secure all three points.
The victory gives Malawi a positive start in Group B, while South Sudan will now look to bounce back in their next qualifying match.
