AFCON U-17: Black Starlets Primed for Test as Ogum Backs Mental Strength

Ghana U-17 head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has expressed strong confidence in his side’s mental readiness and motivation ahead of their opening fixture against Algeria at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026.

According to the tactician, the atmosphere within camp reflects a group fully aware of the responsibility of representing Ghana on the continental stage. He noted that the players have embraced the demands of preparation, combining physical work with tactical discipline and mental focus to ensure they are ready for the challenge ahead.

Ogum emphasized that the team’s commitment throughout the build-up has been encouraging, describing a squad eager to make a statement in their opening match. He believes that this hunger, coupled with their preparation, positions the Black Starlets to compete strongly against a well-organised Algerian side.

The coach also acknowledged the difficulty of opening fixtures in major tournaments, stressing the need for discipline and clinical execution. With both teams expected to approach the contest cautiously but competitively, Ogum remains optimistic that his players can rise to the occasion and deliver a performance that reflects Ghana’s pedigree in youth football.
