Africa’s Club World Cup Race Takes Shape as Two Slots Remain Open

Africa’s representation at the next FIFA Club World Cup is beginning to take clearer form, with two clubs already confirmed and two more places still up for grabs.

Egyptian side Pyramids FC secured their place after winning the 2024–25 CAF Champions League, edging past South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the final to claim their maiden continental crown.

Sundowns themselves have also locked in qualification, benefiting from CAF’s allocation system tied to recent continental performances and Champions League success cycles.

As it stands, Africa’s confirmed representatives include:
• Pyramids FC
• Mamelodi Sundowns

The remaining two slots will be decided by the winners of upcoming CAF Champions League editions, as the continent’s qualification pathway continues to reward sustained success at club level.

With the expanded FIFA Club World Cup set to feature 32 teams, Africa’s final lineup will ultimately reflect the continent’s dominant forces over a multi-year cycle, adding further intrigue to an already high-stakes Champions League race.
