Aduana FC Chief Executive Officer Atta Poku has thrown his support behind Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku’s potential bid for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), despite disagreeing with his pursuit of a third term at the GFA.
Poku believes Okraku’s current standing in African football makes him a strong candidate for the continent’s top football administration position and has urged Ghanaians to support such an ambition.
“Where Kurt Okraku has gotten to currently, everybody in Ghana should push him to get the CAF presidency, even though I don’t personally support his [GFA] third-term bid,” Poku said.
His comments draw a clear distinction between his opposition to Okraku’s bid to remain GFA president and his support for the football administrator to seek a bigger role at the continental level.
Okraku has served as GFA president since 2019 and has risen in prominence within African football administration during his tenure.
Poku’s endorsement suggests that, despite domestic disagreements over Okraku’s future at the GFA, he believes the Ghanaian administrator has the experience and influence to compete for CAF’s highest office.
