Aubameyang reveals why he joined Deportivo La Coruña

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has explained why he decided to continue his career at Deportivo La Coruña after being officially unveiled by the Spanish club on Tuesday. The 37-year-old striker said the club’s history and ambition convinced him to accept the challenge.

“When Deportivo called me, I thought I should listen to what they had to say. I’ve known Deportivo since their Champions League campaign. Seeing them in the first division is important. Being able to help this team is very important to me,” Aubameyang said, adding that his discussions with head coach Hidalgo gave him confidence in the project. “He explained what he expected from me, and I like that kind of pressure.”

The former Marseille forward also praised the warm welcome he received and expressed his excitement about the squad’s potential. Aubameyang highlighted the differences between the leagues where he has played, describing Spanish football as more focused on building from the back, while calling French football more physical and German football more open. He believes those experiences have helped him become a more complete player.

Looking ahead to the new season, Aubameyang refused to set a specific goal tally but made his ambitions clear. “The goals will come. I don’t know the exact number, but I hope there will be many. I’m going to score goals, make a lot of assists, and win matches.” He also thanked Deportivo for believing in him, insisting that his passion for football remains as strong as ever as he begins a new chapter in Spain.
