Nigeria international Victor Boniface has shared a humorous story about his move to Bayer Leverkusen, revealing that his close friend Jeremie Frimpong jokingly tried to discourage him from joining the Bundesliga champions.
Speaking about the transfer for the first time, Boniface described Frimpong as his best friend in football and recalled the conversation they had before he completed the switch to Germany.
“This is the first time I’m saying this,” Boniface said. “My best friend in football is Jeremie Frimpong.”
The striker explained that he called Frimpong before signing for Leverkusen to seek advice, only to receive an unexpected response.
“Before I joined Bayer Leverkusen, I called him and he told me, ‘Don’t come, the team is sh*t,'” Boniface revealed with a laugh.
Boniface, however, did not keep the joke to himself. On his very first day at the club, he decided to share Frimpong’s comments with the rest of the squad during his introduction.
“So on my first day, when I was introduced to the squad, I told everyone, ‘Before I came here, someone told me this team was shit,'” he said, laughing.
The light-hearted revelation highlights the close friendship between the two stars, who have enjoyed tremendous success together at Bayer Leverkusen, they played key roles in one of the club’s most successful periods in recent history.
