Ivorian prospect Abdoul Ouattara signs for Ipswich from RC Strasbourg

English club Ipswich Town have confirmed the signing of Abdoul Ouattara from RC Strasbourg.

The versatile Ivorian can play either side of the defence or in midfield and has joined for an undisclosed fee, signing a deal until 2031.

At just 20 years old, Abdoul has made 45 appearances at the highest level of French football and was a key part of Strasbourg’s run to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals under Gary O’Neil last season, making 10 appearances in the competition and scoring twice.

“I am very happy to have signed for Ipswich Town,” he said.  “The Premier League is the best league in the world and as soon as I knew the opportunity was there, to play in England under a manager I have already enjoyed working with, I jumped at it.

“I am still young but have had some good experiences already and I can’t wait to meet the fans and my teammates and get started.”

Town boss Gary O’Neil added: “Abdoul is a talented young player who can play in different positions, so is a very good addition to our squad. “We enjoyed working with him in France last season and are delighted to have the opportunity to do so again at Ipswich.”

Born in Zoukpangbeu, Ivory Coast, Abdoul moved to France at 10-years-old. He joined Strasbourg’s youth academy in 2018 and was playing for Strasbourg II at 17.

After gaining experience with the reserve squad, against senior sides in the lower divisions of French football, he made his first-team debut in a 4-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in October 2024.

He became a key figure for the French side under Gary O’Neil last season, demonstrating his versatility with appearances all over the pitch.
