Brescia Calcio Ceases to Exist After 114 Years

Italian football has bid farewell to one of its most historic clubs after Brescia Calcio officially ceased to exist following the start of liquidation proceedings over mounting financial debts.

The court in the Lombardy city has initiated the liquidation process after the club accumulated debts of approximately €20 million, bringing an end to Brescia’s 114-year history in Italian football.

The development marks the disappearance of one of Italy’s most iconic clubs, whose legacy stretches back more than a century and includes the rise and careers of several football greats.

Over the years, Brescia became home to an array of legendary players, including Roberto Baggio, Andrea Pirlo, Gheorghe Hagi, Pep Guardiola, Marek Hamšík, Luca Toni, Stephen Appiah and Sandro Tonali, all of whom wore the club’s famous colours at different stages of their careers.

Renowned for developing talent and producing memorable moments in Italian football, Brescia’s collapse represents a significant loss to the country’s football landscape.

The club’s liquidation closes the chapter on a storied institution whose contribution to Italian football will long be remembered, despite its unfortunate financial downfall.
