The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has fully cleared Samuel Eto’o Fils, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), overturning sanctions previously handed down against him.
The ruling, issued on August 5, 2026, completely nullifies a four-match stadium ban and a $20,000 fine that had been leveled against the legendary former striker.
The original disciplinary proceedings stemmed from events during Match No. 46 of the AFCON Morocco 2025 tournament, where Cameroon faced off against Morocco on January 9, 2026. CAF’s Disciplinary Board initially ruled that Eto’o had violated Article 2, paragraph 3 of the CAF Statutes and Article 82 of the Disciplinary Code, which cover core principles of sportsmanship, integrity, and loyalty.
However, following FECAFOOT’s appeal, the higher tribunal setting aside all sanctions and restoring Eto’o’s full rights.
In an official statement signed by FECAFOOT Secretary General Mandong Isaac Noé, the federation praised the decision, highlighting it as a testament to the independence and fairness of African football’s governing framework.
“FECAFOOT takes note of this decision by the CAF Appeal Board, which demonstrates its independence and determination to rule with complete objectivity,” the press release stated. The federation added that it maintains full confidence in CAF’s judicial structures and their ongoing commitment to upholding legal integrity.
The successful appeal clears the air for Eto’o, allowing the FECAFOOT president to return to official CAF matches without legal encumbrance as Cameroon continues its international campaign.
