AS Real Bamako have advanced to the second preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after holding Burkina Faso’s Vitesse FC to a goalless draw in the second leg of their first-round tie.
Real Bamako secured a 2-1 aggregate victory, having won the first leg 2-1, to book their place in the next stage of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
The Malian side produced a disciplined defensive performance in the return fixture to protect their advantage and complete the job over two legs.
The result means Real Bamako will now turn their attention to the second preliminary round, where they are scheduled to face the winner of the tie between ES de Zarzis of Tunisia and Diambars FC of Senegal. CAF’s official draw placed the winner of that tie against Real Bamako in the next round.
The second preliminary round first legs are scheduled for October 16–18, 2026, with the return legs billed for October 23–25.
Real Bamako’s progression keeps their hopes of reaching the CAF Confederation Cup group stage alive.
The Malian club will need to overcome their second-round opponent over two legs to secure a place among the 16 teams that advance to the group stage.
With the first hurdle now cleared, Real Bamako will await the outcome of the ES de Zarzis–Diambars FC tie before knowing their next opponent.
