Shooting Stars Edge CS Sfaxien 1-0 in CAF Confederation Cup Return

Shooting Stars secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien on Saturday as the Oluyole Warriors marked their return to continental football on a winning note.

Playing in front of their home supporters in Abeokuta, Shooting Stars produced a determined performance to claim a narrow advantage in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie.

The Nigerian side will now travel to Tunisia for the decisive second leg at the Stade Taieb Mhiri in Sfax next Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 6:00pm.

The victory gives Shooting Stars a valuable advantage heading into the return fixture, but the tie remains finely balanced with CS Sfaxien having the opportunity to overturn the deficit on home soil.

The Oluyole Warriors will need another disciplined performance in Tunisia if they are to complete the job and secure qualification for the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Shooting Stars’ return to continental competition has therefore started positively, but the team knows that the bigger challenge awaits in Sfax.

The winner over the two legs will advance to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, keeping their hopes of progressing further in Africa’s second-tier club competition alive.
