Cameroon finally has a complete squad with just two days left before the start of their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. Christian Kofane and Jackson Tchatchoua joined the Indomitable Lions early Tuesday morning.
The team first gathered at the Hilton Hotel in Yaoundé on Monday, but only 16 players took part in the first training session. The full squad will train together for the first time on Tuesday evening in Garoua.
David Pagou now faces a major challenge. Several experienced players, including André Onana, Vincent Aboubakar, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Nouhou Tolo and Christopher Wooh, remain absent. André-Frank Zambo Anguissa has retired internationally, while Carlos Baleba and Etta Eyong will also miss the upcoming matches. Five players are also discovering this new setup, leaving the coaching staff with very little time to build understanding and establish clear roles.
The defence presents the biggest concern ahead of the opening match. Cameroon will rely on Simon Ngapandouetnbu, Nna Noukeu and Lako Wendeu, three goalkeepers with limited international experience. The coaching staff must also quickly develop coordination between the goalkeepers, centre-backs, full-backs and midfielders. With Comoros waiting on September 24, Pagou has only 48 hours to give this reshaped team a clear identity.
