Ghanaian coach Charles Kwabena Akonnor has expressed his frustration with Gor Mahia following their heavy 5-1 defeat to Egyptian side Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League.
The result saw the Kenyan giants eliminated from the competition with a 7-1 aggregate scoreline after also losing the first leg.
Akonnor was particularly critical of the individual mistakes that contributed to Gor Mahia’s collapse, lamenting the manner in which the team conceded goals despite being encouraged to compete strongly at the continental level.
“I am really upset. It was so disappointing to see these errors from the team,” Akonnor said after the defeat.
“This was so disappointing to see from a team that we have encouraged to try and do well.”
The defeat brings Gor Mahia’s Champions League campaign to an emphatic end, while Akonnor will now have to turn his attention to rebuilding the team’s confidence and addressing the defensive lapses exposed by Pyramids.
