Desmond Ofei Backs Local Talents Ahead of Mexico Test

Assistant coach of the Ghana national football team, Desmond Ofei, has expressed confidence in the squad selected for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico national football team, describing the group as talented, ambitious, and eager to impress.

Ofei revealed that the technical team deliberately blended standout performers from the Ghana Premier League with promising U23 players to provide an opportunity for emerging talents to stake a claim under newly appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz.

“For the upcoming game against Mexico, we have selected a very talented and ambitious group of players from our local league, alongside some exciting U23 talents and players who are highly motivated to show their qualities to the nation and to our new head coach, Mr. Carlos Queiroz,” Ofei said.

The assistant coach acknowledged the magnitude of the challenge awaiting the Black Stars, describing Mexico as one of the strongest football nations internationally. According to him, the encounter will serve as a crucial measuring stick for both players and the technical staff as Ghana continues its rebuilding process.

“Mexico is a top-level opponent with a strong football culture, great intensity, and international experience, so this will be an important test for our group,” he added.

“These are the types of matches that help players grow, help coaches evaluate, and help a nation continue building for the future.”

The fixture is expected to provide several home-based players with a rare opportunity to showcase their abilities on the international stage while also giving the new technical team a closer look at the country’s emerging talents.

With competition for places in the Black Stars intensifying, the friendly against Mexico could prove decisive for many players hoping to cement their place in Ghana’s future plans.
