Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed the payment of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each D’Tigress player and $50,000 to every team official as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reward for the team’s historic achievement at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
The payments were credited to the accounts of the players and officials on September 9, 2026, with all beneficiaries confirming receipt.
The reward follows D’Tigress’ remarkable fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title and seventh championship overall, further cementing Nigeria’s dominance in women’s basketball on the continent.
The National Sports Commission said the latest payment completes all components of the Presidential Rewards approved for the team following its historic Afrobasket success.
Earlier in February 2026, each player and official was presented with the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) for a three-bedroom flat in Abuja, alongside the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour, duly signed by President Tinubu.
The latest financial reward therefore brings the full package of presidential recognition for the D’Tigress players and officials to completion.
The achievement has further highlighted the growth and success of Nigerian women’s basketball, with D’Tigress continuing to set the standard in African basketball.
