Ghana’s U-20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, have secured qualification to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after a resilient performance saw them hold on for a crucial draw and a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Coming into the second leg with a narrow 2-1 advantage from the first encounter, the Princesses were tested early when Uganda’s Uganda women’s national under-20 football team, known as the Queen Cranes, struck in just the 6th minute to level the aggregate scoreline. The early setback set the tone for a tense contest as Ghana were forced to dig deep.
The challenge intensified in the 68th minute when Margaret Agyapomaa was sent off, reducing the Princesses to ten players at a critical stage of the match. With the numerical disadvantage and pressure mounting, Ghana’s resolve was put under serious scrutiny.
However, in a moment that defined their campaign, Linda Owusu Ansah rose to the occasion in the 78th minute, scoring directly from a corner with her trademark delivery to restore Ghana’s aggregate lead. The goal proved decisive, swinging momentum back in favour of the Princesses and silencing the hosts.
Despite late pressure from the Queen Cranes, Ghana held firm to see out the draw, a result that was enough to confirm their passage to the global showpiece. The Ghana women’s national under-20 football team will now turn their attention to the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, where they will aim to make a strong impression on the world stage.
