Nigeria’s Falconets produced a sensational attacking display on Sunday, September 13, 2026, demolishing New Caledonia 10-1 to secure a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The emphatic victory in their final Group F fixture saw Nigeria finish second in the group, behind Spain, and book their place in the knockout phase of the competition.
It was also the biggest-ever victory recorded by the Falconets at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, underlining the scale of their dominant performance.
Nigeria took control of the contest early and raced into a commanding lead before half-time.
Ramotalahi Kareem opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute before Rebecca Adegbemile doubled Nigeria’s advantage two minutes later.
The Falconets continued to overwhelm their opponents, with Janet Seimeyeha Akekoromowei making it 3-0 in the 23rd minute.
Kareem then completed her brace in the 27th minute as Nigeria went into the interval with a comfortable 4-0 advantage.
The second half brought even more goals as the Falconets continued their relentless assault.
Winner Onajite David scored in the 60th minute before Kareem completed her hat-trick four minutes later.
Tosin Rafiu added Nigeria’s seventh goal in the 70th minute, while Adegbemile struck again in the 74th minute to complete her brace.
David then scored her second of the game in the 75th minute, putting Nigeria 9-0 ahead.
New Caledonia managed to pull one goal back through Joceline Kourevi in the 89th minute, but the Falconets had the final say.
David completed her hat-trick in the fourth minute of added time to round off a remarkable 10-1 victory for Nigeria.
Kareem and David both finished the match with hat-tricks, while Adegbemile contributed two goals.
The result provides a major boost for head coach Moses Aduku and his young squad, who had entered the final group game needing a strong result to keep their knockout-stage hopes alive.
With the 10-1 triumph, Nigeria finish second in Group F and advance to the Round of 16 of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
The Falconets will now turn their attention to the knockout stage, where they will face a tougher test in their quest to make a deep run in the tournament.
