Ghana’s Black Princesses produced a commanding second-half performance to defeat South Korea 3-1, securing maximum points from their second game.
The Princesses started brightly and were on the front foot from the opening stages, pushing for an early breakthrough. Ghana continued to apply pressure, but South Korea held firm.
Ghana suffered an injury setback in the 26th minute when Esther Asamoah was forced off. Latifa Abesik was introduced as her replacement.
Sarah Nyarko came close to opening the scoring in the 38th minute, but her effort sailed over the crossbar. Two minutes later, Sarah thought she had found the breakthrough when she put the ball into the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.
Ghana maintained their attacking intent after the break, with Ivy Osei Owusu testing the South Korean defence early in the second half. The goalkeeper, however, was on hand to deny her in the 48th minute.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 52nd minute. Sarah Nyarko unleashed a long-range effort that found the back of the net, giving Ghana a deserved 1-0 lead.
Just three minutes later, the Princesses doubled their advantage. Ivy Osei Owusu produced a beautiful chip over the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 and put Ghana firmly in control.
Ghana continued to dominate proceedings and were rewarded again in the 84th minute when Ruth Amponsah extended the lead to 3-0, putting the result beyond doubt.
South Korea managed to score a consolation goal deep into stoppage time, but it was too little too late as the referee brought proceedings to an end.
The final whistle confirmed a 3-1 victory for Ghana, with the Black Princesses picking up maximum points from their second game.
