GPL: Nations FC Relegated Despite Crucial Victory Over Karela United

Nations FC suffered one of the most painful moments in their history after being relegated from the Ghana Premier League despite defeating Karela United 1-0 on the final day of the season. The dramatic afternoon ended in heartbreak as their victory proved insufficient to preserve their top-flight status.

The visitors started brightly at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium and took the lead in the 15th minute through Brandon Antwi Sarpong. The forward calmly converted after a swift attacking move, giving Nations hope of securing survival with a vital away victory.

From that point, Nations FC defended resolutely against a determined Karela side desperate to finish the season strongly in front of their supporters. The visitors remained compact and disciplined, frustrating Karela throughout the second half to protect their slender advantage until the final whistle.

However, celebrations quickly turned into disappointment as results elsewhere confirmed Nations FC had still finished in the relegation zone. Although they ended the season on 44 points, a point short proved costly as other clubs around them survived by the narrowest of margins.

The result left Nations FC in 16th place and relegated, making their final-day victory one of the cruelest outcomes of the season. Karela United, meanwhile, finished ninth with 49 points despite the defeat.
