Half-Time: Super Falcons Hold South Africa to Goalless Draw in World Cup Play-Off

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have gone into the break level at 0-0 with South Africa in their crucial 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup play-off at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.

Neither side has been able to find the breakthrough in a closely contested opening 45 minutes, leaving the tie finely balanced heading into the second half.

The encounter carries huge significance for both teams, with the winner earning Africa’s second available place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup inter-confederation play-offs, joining Ghana in the next stage.

Nigeria entered the contest seeking to recover from their 1-0 quarter-final defeat to Cameroon, which ended their hopes of automatic qualification through the WAFCON semi-finals. South Africa, meanwhile, were also eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 2-1 loss to hosts Morocco.

With the score still goalless, everything remains to play for after the interval as both teams continue their push for a route to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons will now need to produce a decisive second-half performance if they are to keep their World Cup dream alive.
