Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia after sustaining a groin injury.
The forward was expected to play a key role in Ghana’s upcoming fixtures, but his injury has ruled him out of the international window and added to the growing list of players unavailable to head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Ayew’s withdrawal is another setback for the Black Stars as they prepare for two important qualifying matches. Ghana are scheduled to travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday, before returning home to host The Gambia in Accra next week.
The captain’s absence leaves Queiroz with another selection headache, particularly in attack, as the technical team assesses its available options ahead of the two fixtures.
Ghana have already been forced to make several changes to the squad because of injuries, with the latest setback further disrupting preparations for the AFCON qualifiers.
The Black Stars will now look to their remaining attacking options to fill the void left by Ayew as they continue preparations for the Côte d’Ivoire clash.
