Germany has moved quickly after its disappointing World Cup campaign. Just days after the team’s Round of 32 elimination against Paraguay and Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation, the German Football Association has reached an agreement with Jürgen Klopp to become the new head coach of the national team.
The DFB had identified Klopp as its top priority from the start of its search. While the former Liverpool manager still has to finalize a few details with the Red Bull group, Sky Germany reports that both parties have already agreed on the main terms. Klopp had previously expressed his desire to coach Germany one day, making the appointment a natural fit.
At 59, Klopp now faces the challenge of rebuilding a German side that has struggled to meet expectations in recent major tournaments. The former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool boss will aim to restore the team’s identity and competitiveness, with UEFA EURO 2028 set to become his first major objective as Germany’s new national team coach.
