Ghanaian midfielder Kojo Peprah Oppong has officially been unveiled as a Fenerbahçe player after completing his transfer from French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice.
The midfielder has signed a four-year contract with the Turkish giants, with Fenerbahçe reportedly paying €12 million for his services. Nice will also retain a 10 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement.
Oppong is already familiar with the passionate environment at Fenerbahçe, having previously faced the club in a friendly match. The experience gave him an early impression of the atmosphere surrounding the Istanbul-based side.
“I’d played against Fenerbahçe in a friendly match. I know the atmosphere here. I know how passionate the fans are,” Oppong said following his unveiling.
The Ghanaian also revealed that he consulted former Fenerbahçe defender Alexander Djiku before making the move, with the defender’s positive assessment of the club influencing his decision.
“I spoke with Djiku before coming here. He said very nice things about Fenerbahçe. Hearing it from someone who’s played here was impactful,” he added.
Oppong expressed his excitement at joining the club and thanked the supporters for the warm reception.
“Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I’m very happy to have joined this family. I can’t wait to put on the jersey,” he said.
The €12 million deal represents a significant investment from Fenerbahçe, who will now look to the Ghanaian midfielder to make an immediate impact as they pursue domestic and continental success.
