Majeed Waris Calls for Mental Strength Ahead of 2026 World Cup

Former Ghana international Majeed Waris has urged the Black Stars to remain mentally focused and adequately prepared ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the national team possesses the quality to compete strongly on football’s biggest stage.

Speaking on Ghana’s chances at the tournament, Waris expressed confidence in the current squad but stressed that success would depend heavily on preparation and concentration throughout the competition.

“I wouldn’t say that because I think we have a good team to win each of those games,” Waris said when assessing Ghana’s prospects.

The former striker noted that the fine margins at the World Cup level mean players cannot afford lapses in concentration, even for brief moments, due to the high level of competition expected at the tournament.

“What it comes down to is the preparation and then focusing mentally because at that stage you cannot switch off even for a minute because that can turn everything around,” he added.

Waris’ comments come as discussions continue over the readiness of the Black Stars and expectations surrounding the team ahead of the global showpiece in 2026.

The former Ghana forward believes the talent within the squad is capable of producing positive results, provided the team approaches the competition with discipline, focus and the right mentality.
