The Gambia head coach Jonathan McKinstry has explained the tactical approach his side used to exploit weaknesses in Ghana’s defensive structure during their 4-2 victory over the Black Stars.
McKinstry identified the space Ghana regularly left on the flanks as an area his team could target, particularly when the Black Stars transitioned into attack.
“Over the past few months, the Black Stars have normally left space down the flanks. In transition, they play with double wingers, and the full-backs become wide wingers.”
The Gambian coach said his team worked to exploit those spaces by attacking the areas left exposed when Ghana’s full-backs pushed forward.
The tactical plan proved effective as The Gambia scored four goals at the Accra Sports Stadium, handing Ghana a heavy defeat in the international encounter.
