CAF President Patrice Motsepe has praised Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku for travelling from Ghana to Tanzania to underscore the importance of the Africa Cup of Nations to African football.
“I’m happy Kurt Okraku came all the way from Ghana to re-emphasise the importance of the AFCON to African football,” Motsepe said during the ongoing preparations for the 2027 continental showpiece.
Okraku, who also serves as CAF’s Second Vice President, is part of a high-level CAF delegation visiting Tanzania to review the country’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
As part of the visit, Motsepe and the delegation are assessing key facilities, including the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, while engaging Tanzanian government and football authorities on the progress of preparations. CAF says the visit is intended to review progress, identify areas requiring further attention and ensure preparations remain aligned with its operational and infrastructure requirements.
The inspection comes after CAF technical teams conducted an earlier assessment of Tanzania’s stadiums, training facilities, transport, accommodation, medical services and other infrastructure. Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, venues in Arusha and Zanzibar, and associated facilities have all featured in the preparation process.
The 2027 AFCON is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027, marking a significant return of the tournament to East Africa. The three host nations are working with CAF through the PAMOJA framework to coordinate infrastructure development and tournament operations ahead of the competition.
