Newcastle Target Carlos Baleba as Midfield Rebuild Takes Shape

Newcastle United have identified Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba as a potential target as the club look to rebuild their midfield following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international has emerged as a name on Newcastle’s transfer shortlist, with the Magpies assessing options to replace two influential midfielders who have left St James’ Park this summer.

Baleba has established himself as an important player for Brighton since joining the club from Lille. His physical presence, ball-winning ability and composure in possession have made him one of the Premier League’s highly regarded young midfielders.

Newcastle’s interest comes after Guimaraes completed a £75 million move to Arsenal, while Tonali has also departed the club.

The Magpies are therefore facing a major reshaping of their midfield, with Baleba viewed as a player who could provide both defensive strength and energy in the centre of the pitch.

Any move for the Cameroon star is likely to require significant investment, given his importance to Brighton and his long-term potential. Newcastle will now consider whether to turn their interest into a formal approach as they continue their summer recruitment.

Baleba’s profile fits Newcastle’s desire to add youth and athleticism to their midfield, but negotiations with Brighton could prove challenging if the Seagulls demand a substantial fee for one of their key players.
