Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya has urged world governing body FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF) to intervene immediately and help set up a caretaker committee to manage Kenyan football.
In a statement, Nyamweya told FIFA and CAF that football in Kenya is at a standstill under the leadership of FKF President Hussein Mohammed, and his leadership has become completely untenable.
“I am therefore, making a personal, urgent appeal for you to move in with speed before we lose everything,” said Nyamweya.

Kenya, together with Uganda and Tanzania, will host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. This is a historic moment for our country. But how can we prepare to host Africa when our own football house is on fire?
Football in Kenya is at a standstill under the leadership of FKF President Hussein Mohammed, and his leadership has become completely untenable. I am therefore making a personal, urgent appeal for you to move in with speed before we lose everything.
The Crisis as I See It:
1. Untenable Leadership:
President Hussein Mohammed has lost the confidence of the football family. His continued stay is toxic to the game.
2. Divide and Rule and Abuse of Branch Chairmen:
He is ruling by divide-and-rule and making unilateral decisions without other elected NEC members. He has filled the secretariat with his cronies and personal allies.
Most worrying, he is now using FKF Branch Chairmen unconstitutionally to do his dirty work. Branch chairmen have no constitutional power to sack elected NEC officials, yet he is convening them illegally and, I have been informed, bribing them with Federation money to pass resolutions to sack NEC members who oppose him. This is a grave misuse of football funds and a direct violation of the FKF Constitution.
3. The Unexplained Ksh 3 Billion Budget:
He is forcing through a Ksh 3 billion budget with no proper breakdown, no transparency, and no clear explanation of how the money will be used. This is public and football money – it must be accounted for.
4. Putting Kenyan Football into Disrepute:
He has dragged Kenyan football into endless court cases, which is against FIFA Statutes. This lawlessness is putting Kenya at risk of sanctions and ridicule.
5. Football at a Standstill:
Because of his misrule, Kenyan football is at a standstill. Leagues are disorganized, national team preparations are in chaos, and grassroots football is dead.
6. The FKF Constitution Violated:
He has abandoned the FKF Constitution and is running the federation like his personal property.
My Prayer and Appeal:
I call upon FIFA, CAF, and the Government of Kenya to move in with speed and:
a) Immediately intervene in the FKF leadership crisis;
b) Suspend the current dysfunctional leadership to allow for investigations into the misuse of funds, unconstitutional actions against NEC officials, and violations of the FKF Constitution and FIFA Statutes;
c) Urgently constitute an Independent Caretaker / Normalization Committee to oversee the running of football in Kenya.
This Caretaker Committee should be made of credible, non-partisan football stakeholders, respected former players and administrators of integrity, to restore constitutional order, manage funds transparently, run football activities, and prepare the country for a free, fair and credible FKF election.
We cannot head to AFCON 2027 with a federation in squabbles, in court, and run like a personal kiosk. The world is watching us. Let us save Kenyan football now.
