Official: Alimata Belem joins Washington spirit

Burkina Faso international Alimata Belem has signed with the Washington Spirit of the NWSL on a four-year contract running through 2029.

She becomes the first-ever player from Burkina Faso to sign with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the top-tier women’s soccer league in the United States.

After joining SD Eibar in the summer of 2025 from DUX Logrono, Alimata Belem quickly established herself as a key player for the Basque team.

A Burkina Faso international from a young age, the midfielder joined Eibar after impressing both in her home country and in Spain’s Primera Federacion.

Since her debut with the Armeros, she has continued to improve in Liga F, establishing herself as a well-rounded midfielder with a strong physical presence, high work rate, and valuable experience in midfield.

Her consistent performances and steady development have attracted interest from several international clubs, opening up new opportunities for her while she remains fully committed to SD Eibar’s sporting project.
