Patrick Vieira’s appointment as Senegal head coach has hit an administrative delay, with the former France international reportedly yet to sign his contract 10 days after the agreement was announced.
The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed Vieira’s appointment on August 19, although it did not initially disclose the length or full details of his contract.
According to reports, an agreement has been reached between Vieira and the federation, but the final paperwork is yet to be completed. The composition of his coaching staff and a number of contractual details are understood to remain outstanding.
The delay is becoming increasingly significant with the next international break approaching, leaving limited time for Vieira to finalise his technical team, assess his squad and communicate with players ahead of Senegal’s upcoming assignments.
The federation is reportedly confident that the agreement will be completed, with the outstanding issues viewed as administrative rather than a breakdown in negotiations.
Vieira was chosen to replace Pape Thiaw following Senegal’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The appointment represents the 50 year old’s first role in international management and a return to the country of his birth, having been born in Dakar before moving to France as a child.
For now, however, Vieira remains in an unusual position: appointed as Senegal’s new coach, but still waiting to officially put pen to paper.
