Senegal FA President Reveals Team Doctor Was a Gynecologist, Cites Players’ Concerns

Senegal Football Federation (FSF) President Abdoulaye Fall has disclosed that the federation replaced the national team’s chief doctor after discovering the medic did not possess the most suitable academic background for elite football.

Speaking about the decision, Fall revealed that he only learned at a later stage that the team’s principal doctor was a specialist in gynecology and obstetrics rather than sports medicine.

“I discovered too late that the national team’s main doctor did not have the appropriate academic background to support the players,” Fall said.

“He is actually a gynecologist and obstetrician by profession. From what I was told, the players did not have complete confidence in the medical support they were receiving.”

According to the FSF president, concerns raised by members of the squad over the medical team’s expertise prompted the federation to act in order to restore confidence within the camp.

Fall explained that the federation subsequently appointed a specialist better suited to the demands of elite football, stressing that the wellbeing of the players was the overriding priority.

“That is why it was necessary to bring in an expert who could give them more reassurance. In the end, the players’ health comes before everything else,” he added.

The revelation sheds light on the federation’s efforts to strengthen the medical support structure around the Teranga Lions, with player welfare and confidence identified as key factors behind the change.
