Moroccan forward Soufiane Rahimi has etched his name into Al Ain history after becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer in Asian club competitions.
Rahimi reached the milestone during Al Ain’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr in their opening AFC Champions League Elite fixture on Tuesday. He scored the third goal in the 72nd minute to take his tally to 19 goals in the competition.
The 30-year-old has now moved clear of Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan and former Al Ain captain Omar Abdulrahman, who both finished with 18 goals in the club’s AFC Champions League campaign.
Rahimi’s record adds another chapter to his growing legacy at Al Ain, where he has been a key figure in the club’s recent continental campaigns. His latest goal came in a dominant performance from the UAE side, with his brother Houssine Rahimi scoring twice before Giorgos Giakoumakis completed the 4-0 win.
For Gyan, who enjoyed a prolific spell with Al Ain between 2011 and 2015, the record had stood alongside Abdulrahman’s at 18 goals. Rahimi’s latest strike has now taken him to the summit on his own.
