Crested Cranes head coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes has left her position after the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) and the coach mutually agreed not to continue or extend her contract, with immediate effect.
The decision brings an end to Botes’ three-year tenure as head coach of Uganda’s senior women’s national team. Her departure comes just days after she named a 34-player squad for Uganda’s 2028 Olympic qualifiers against Zambia, with the first leg scheduled for October 8 and the return leg on October 13, 2026.
Here is the statement from FUFA: “Crested Cranes Head Coach Sheryl Ulanda Botes and Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have mutually agreed not to continue and extend the contract, with immediate effect, ending her three-year tenure.
“FUFA would like to thank Sheryl for the good work done and wish her the best in the future.”
According to FUFA, a mutual agreement was reached between the two parties to not continue and extend the contract. The relationship ends with immediate effect, ending Botes’ three-year tenure in Uganda. FUFA has thanked Botes for the work done during her time with the national team and wished her the best in her future endeavours.
Botes has been in charge of the Uganda Crested Cranes for the past three years after being unveiled by FUFA in November 2023 on a three-year contract.
During her tenure, Botes guided Uganda to a bronze medal at the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship and also oversaw the Queen Cranes U-20 setup. Her departure now leaves FUFA with the task of determining the next coach to lead the Crested Cranes into their upcoming assignments.
