The Spanish Football Federation has apologised to the Egyptian Football Association after confirming that Spanish match officials will not be available to officiate the highly anticipated Cairo Derby between Zamalek and Al Ahly.
The Spanish referees originally expected to take charge of the fixture are unavailable due to their UEFA commitments, forcing a change to the officiating plans.
The Egyptian Football Association will now be required to appoint a new referee team for the derby, with the replacement officials yet to be confirmed.
The clash between the two Egyptian giants is scheduled for October 11 and is expected to attract significant attention as one of Africa’s most renowned football rivalries.
