Super Falcons Line Up Cape Verde Friendly Ahead of WAFCON 2026

Nigeria’s senior women’s team, the Super Falcons, will take on Cape Verde Women’s National Team in an international friendly this April as preparations gather pace for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Sources close to the team indicate that the match will be played in Nigeria, offering the African champions a valuable opportunity to sharpen their form on home ground ahead of their title defence in Morocco.

The squad is expected to begin camping on April 11, kicking off a crucial phase of training following their recent double-header against the Cameroon Women’s National Team.

In that earlier series in Yaoundé, Nigeria endured a narrow 1-0 loss in the opening match but responded with an impressive 3-1 win in the second encounter.

The fixtures provided important insight into the team’s resilience and depth under head coach Justin Madugu.

With the continental tournament approaching, the clash with Cape Verde—also one of the qualified teams—will give the Super Falcons another chance to refine their tactics, reintegrate key players, and build momentum.

Cape Verde’s participation adds further intrigue, as the side secured qualification for their maiden WAFCON appearance, marking a historic milestone for the nation.

The Nigeria Football Federation has yet to confirm full details such as the venue or whether the fixture will be played as a single match or a two-game series.

However, early indications suggest it will be hosted in Nigeria, allowing supporters to rally behind the team.

Drawn in Group C alongside Zambia Women’s National Team, Egypt Women’s National Team, and debutants Malawi Women’s National Team, the Super Falcons are intensifying their build-up as they aim to successfully defend their continental crown.
