Tusker FC is delighted to announce the signing of Nigerian Striker Victor Mbaoma, 29, on a one-year deal. Mbaoma arrives from Remo Stars, in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), where he was last season’s top scorer with 14 goals and four assists.
He comes in with a rich pedigree and experience, becoming our first acquisition ahead of the 2026/27 season. Mbaoma will be playing in East Africa for the second time, having been in Rwanda where he played for APR, also clinching the golden boot with a 15-goal haul.
“I am really delighted to be joining Tusker FC. The coach and the management presented the club’s project to me and I was attracted to it. I have also gone back to look at the history of the team and this is a winning side. The team has an ambition to not only do well locally but also in Continental football and that was a big attraction for me,” Mbaoma said, after his unveiling.
Mbaoma has penned his contract already with the team, before flying back to Nigeria. He is set to return to the country at the end of the week, just in time for pre-season with his new teammates.
“I am glad to welcome Victor to the team as our first signing. He is an experienced player who I know very well and I am sure we will make great success together,” head coach Julien Mette said.
He was welcomed to the team by the coach, and chairman Charles Gacheru.
About Victor:
Mbaoma is not a stranger to coach Mette, with the tactician having first seen him in Rwanda, where he was an opponent player when the French tactician coached arch rivals Rayon Sports.
“We shared a home stadium with Rayon and the coach saw me frequently. I am sure he saw a trait in me that will fit his team. I also know him well from my time in Rwanda. He is very passionate and wants his team to always win and I love the energy he puts to his work. He usually transmits this energy to his players.”
The forward comes in to Tusker with loads of experience. He started his professional career with Remo Stars in 2016, and has had a journey that took him to Akwa United and Enyimba locally as well as MC Alger in Algeria as well as Qizilqum Zarafshon in Uzbekistan.
He has massive experience in Continental football, one that coach Mette was keen on as he pursued his signature. He has played 23 matches in the CAF Confederation Cup, scoring eight goals and assisting once. In the CAF Champions League, he has played nine games with four goals.
“I have qualified to the group stages of the Confederation Cup and the Champions League more than once and I know what these kinds of games require. I am determined to help the team achieve such a feat because the coach impressed on me that the team wants to qualify for the group stages,” Mbaoma said.
His goal scoring records are mouthwatering. Across his three teams in the Nigerian top tier, Mbaoma has played 169 matches and was directly involved in 74 goals (65 goals, nine assists). Coming in to an area that the team struggled in last season, Mbaoma is expected to offer a much-needed reprieve.
