Nicolas Jackson delivered a standout performance as Aston Villa crushed Fenerbahçe 6-0 on Wednesday in the second matchday of the UEFA Champions League league phase.
The Senegalese striker scored twice in the first half, helping Unai Emery’s side secure their biggest-ever victory in a European competition. Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Fenerbahçe failed to clear a corner, before Jackson took control of the contest. In the 31st minute, Boubacar Kamara set up the forward for Villa’s second goal, and Jackson struck again eight minutes later after combining with Ross Barkley. His clinical finishing punished the Turkish side’s defensive errors and gave the hosts a commanding three-goal lead before the break.
Jackson’s double set the tone for a dominant Villa display, with Barkley also scoring twice after half-time. The English midfielder converted a penalty in the 68th minute following a foul by İsmail Yüksek on Manzambi, then added another goal four minutes later with a deflected effort after Ibrahim Mbaye’s work down the left flank.
Tammy Abraham completed the rout in the 90th minute, finishing Alysson Edward’s cross. While Fenerbahçe created a few chances, including a shot against the crossbar from Oğuz Aydın, goalkeeper Emiliano Suzuki helped Villa maintain control. Jackson’s two goals proved decisive in a memorable European night for Aston Villa, who now have two wins from two matches and head into their next fixtures with growing confidence. Fenerbahçe must regroup before facing Slavia Prague.
